5 reasons why MEINRAD uses memoQ

Today’s translations are produced using CAT tools. There are lots of them, so MEINRAD explains why we have sworn by memoQ for over ten years, and how it can benefit you.

Translation service providers have used CAT tools (computer-assisted translation software) for many years. One of the most popular systems is memoQ, and it’s MEINRAD’s first choice too. It offers reliability, innovation and constantly expanded and enhanced functionality – but there’s even more to it than that.

A hybrid approach

For a number of years, memoQ has enabled a hybrid approach: it can be web-based (i.e. used in a standard browser) or used as locally installed software. This has the advantage that it’s very easy to integrate clients who want to get involved with the translation process: for instance, there’s no need to download and install extra software to carry out an in-country review, as clients can simply access the files via a conventional browser. So they can use memoQ from any computer. And memoQ also offers the qterm terminology management system, a sophisticated term base solution where you as the client can work alongside the agency experts and make sure everyone at your business has access to its contents.

Interfaces with authoring, PIM and content management systems

With memoQ, you can get translations at the touch of a button! Another benefit is that it’s easy to connect to other systems using API interfaces: whether it’s authoring systems, PIM systems or content management systems, memoQ can connect to them to enable an automated or semi-automated translation process. So, without having to get used to a different system, you can place orders for translations and feed translations back into the software you’re familiar with.

Compatible with a wide range of file formats

If you’re a technical editor or you work in marketing, you’ll know that not every text is produced in Word. But that’s not a problem, as memoQ can handle almost all file formats (i.e. it can import the source text and export the translated text in the same format). So without much preparation, you can get your files translated and start using the translations.

In addition to the common file formats, memoQ allows import filters to be adapted for more challenging projects so that even the more unusual file types can be translated. It’s all handled by the MEINRAD Localization Engineering team.

Data security in the translation process

Of all the CAT tools, memoQ is by far one of the most secure, which makes it ideal for use in sensitive sectors such as medical technology.

Settings can be customized to a very fine level to ensure only these people or groups who need authorization have it – for instance, you can configure memoQ so that only certain people (e.g. administrators or project managers) can export the files.

Speed and performance

memoQ is very high-performance software. It can process more data than similar systems, which makes it a popular choice for businesses that need to process lots of data and need a high data throughput. No matter how demanding your data requirements, memoQ is a high-performance and extremely reliable solution.

In short: even after 10 years, MEINRAD still loves memoQ. It has lots of innovative features which ensure clients get high-quality translations day in, day out. And it never stops – the functionality is constantly being enhanced and expanded. Here’s to the next 10 years!
